How To Take Action Against Free Trade
There are many different organizations which are taking a stand against free trade who would welcome your support.
There are loads of different organizations which are desperately trying to stop free trade, and it’s really easy to get involved and help to add a little weight to their cause.
The FTAA is the Free Trade Area of Americas, and an attempt to expand the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) to every country located within South America, Central America and the Caribbean (with the exception of Cuba). There are many free trade groups who are actively working to stop the FTAA, citing ‘human need’ as being much more important than ‘corporate greed.’
Stop the FTAA
The purpose of Stop the FTAA is to persuade congress to reject the FTAA, and signs are pretty promising. There’s strength in numbers, and as such it will take persistent effort from as many people as possible to overcome the internationalists and the media groups who are actually supporting the FTAA. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans just do not realize what is at stake, but here is a short action plan for anybody who is willing to get involved and make a stand against the FTAA.
How to Help Take Action Against Free Trade
- Stay informed – It’s important to keep up to date with all of the latest developments as these issues unfold. There are organizations and websites which have plenty of information available and by joining you can be kept up to date with e-mail alerts on important issues.
- Take action yourself, and contact your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative. There are links to help you find out exactly who you need to speak to, with their mailing and e-mail address. Take action and be heard. You don’t have to write pages and pages of stuff, just a short letter which gets the point across clearly. Many of these websites even give you some helpful letter writing tips in getting the point across clearly. As it says above, – there’s strength in numbers.
- Spread the word – Tell your friends and colleagues about what’s happening and mobilize them to help join the battle. The more the merrier. Many Americans are blissfully unaware of what is going on in these issues, and would be only too happy to help if they were made fully aware of what is really going on.
