Some people in this world are naturally born activists, and others just let the world go by, but really, when there is an issue which is as important as free trade and corporate globalization, you can make a real difference if you become a free trade activist.
Activist is quite an emotive word isn’t it? It conjures up images of chanting, marching, banner waving students protesting to save the world, save the whale or save a tree. They’re always trying to save something, aren’t they? An activist may sound like quite an aggressive stance, but in reality, the real activists who have managed to change the course of the world are anything but – Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, John Lennon, all activists who managed to bring about social, economic, political or environmental change.
Free Trade Activists
Activists right now are working and conspiring all over the world to try to save the world from itself, from free trade and from corporate globalization. Many of the ideals which the WTO set out to achieve sounded perfect, but in reality this model has not worked, and it’s time for change, and who can help to instigate that change? Free trade activists.
The present system:
- Destroys livelihoods, ignores human rights, endangers public health and plunders the environment
- Undermines local economies and exploits workers, farmers, consumers, peasants, women and disadvantaged peoples of the world
- Government guarantees of access to life’s essentials, health care, safety and cultural protection are not able to be fulfilled
It’s time to change, and who can bring about those changes? Free trade activists.
Become a Free Trade Activist
There are many free trade organizations around the world which would be extremely happy to have every support for their cause. Stopping free trade and corporate globalization is a topic which affects us all, in all parts of the world, and we can all do our bit to make the change. One such group is called Stop the FTAA and their website has details of how you can help, another, PAPDA, the “Our World is Not for Sale” group would welcome any support.
